It was also a historical game. It was the first time that 2 schools from the same town/school district met this deep into the playoffs. A lot of these boys on both teams are friends, have grown up together, and played together for most of their lives (Guyer has only been open for 5 years, so a lot of these kids went to school together earlier in their lives). It was definitely a "can't miss" game. Our football stadium holds 12,000 people, and the crowd was so large, they put in extra seating in the endzones, allowing for 3,000 more people.
**Also, our Quarterback, Scotty Young, was recently named Gatorade State Player of the Year for Texas.

He was also just announced as the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Player of the Year. This is the top honor, as the nominees are from the entire state of Texas, no matter the division (2A, 3A, 4A, & 5A).

He will be at Texas Tech next year, and I'm sure we will all be hearing his name for years to come!!
Football players, cheerleaders, and the drill team - waiting for the game to start
Before the game they did something that was really good to see. They had every single player from both teams come out holding hands and meet in the middle. They then had them all shake hands with each other. It was a reminder to them that even though this was a big rivalry game, that at heart we were all from the same town, and win or lose - they are both amazing teams.
So that was the end of our 2009-2010 football season. We ended with a 9-1 record for the season, and a Regional Championship. We really do have an awesome football program all around, and they are fun to watch. I can't wait for next season!
