Dance Competition

Saturday the 30th, the Strutters competed in the Showtime International Winter Classic dance competition in Keller, TX. The girls have been working very hard to get ready for this competition!! They had 3 routines, a team jazz, team military, and team pom. The officers also performed 3 routines, as well as 2 specialty routines. It was a very long day. Our "Strutter Convoy" left Denton at 6:45am, and we left Keller at about 9pm. But it was a great day watching the girls work really hard, and be rewarded for it!

Tayler had a long day as well, as she went with us, but had to leave around 3pm to head back to Ryan for the final performance of Bye Bye Birdie. The 2 female leads are our Captain and Lt. Captain, so they and Tayler, along with 2 other Strutters all had to leave early to go perform.

At the awards ceremony at the end of the night, the girls were awarded 21 trophies and plaques. I can't remember all of the awards they got, there were just too many! I will have a list tomorrow though, as I have to get it to the local paper. Some that I do remember are: Team Grand Champion, Team Sweepstakes trophy, Officer Sweepstakes trophy, Officer Circle trophy, Jazz Ensemble Best in Show. I will post the full list when I get it.

Here are some pictures from the day.....as well as the videos of the 3 routines. You can click on any of the pictures and it opens them larger, so you can see better.

Kati & Bryan on their way in (notice Kati's house shoes with her military costume)

Waiting for their turn to perform the first routine - the Team Military (Kati is 3rd in line...looking a little nervous)

The 3 team performances are done, and some of the girls were across the gym in the bleachers - looking a little tired.

Bryan went over to their side and got above them to take their pictures...

No matter how tired they are, they always have a smile!

Such camera hams

Taylor (who earned mega good boyfriend points for spending the entire Saturday there supporting Kati) and Kati

Haley & her mom Tawnya (and Sheila doing who knows what, and Kati studying her candy)

The typical Kati face

Ben (our Director Cassie's husband) - pretty much showing how we all felt

Haley & Kati

The girls after the awards ceremony - with their haul

Another shot - look how happy they are!

Getting goofy - letting off some steam!

Kati (and her house shoes made a return appearance) & Haley and their Grand Champion trophy, which is literally almost as tall as them!

Don't break it Haley!

In case you were wondering what to do with the cup trophies...

Our wonderful, very hard working, very proud, and very pregnant director Cassie Mayer (and her husband Ben...who is the most supportive!)

Haley & Kati imitating some girls from a dance school who were there, and kept making a very exaggerated face during their routines (ohh...you can see one behind them even)

Taylor & Bryan - end of a long day (they are the best!!!).

Here are the girls before starting their jazz routine (Kati is on far left)

Girls before their Military routine

Here is their Jazz routine. Kati is in the back, if you look at the "H" on the stands - she is right even with the left arm of the H. Later when they are in a triangle formation, she is on the far left back.

This is their Military Routine. Kati is just to the left of the H. It's hard to hear the music, you have to turn it up all the way to hear it. It's a pretty cool piece called "The Pentagon", from the movie Flight 93.

This is the Team Pom routine. She is on the back right hand side, 4th from the right. Later in the routine, when they are doing the pom pass, she is standing on the back row - on the end on the right.
