And all the excitement wore Marmalade out. Luckily her favorite napping spot has been put back up. Where will she nap when Christmas is over?

Purdy

My parents beloved Purdy passed away yesterday. She was a miniature schnauzer, but there was nothing miniature about her! She was just 1 month shy of her 20th birthday. Yes, she was almost 20 years old. She was the boss in my parents house, lovingly called the "Queen Bitch". She ran things and she knew it. She would often push my dad right out of his recliner and not let him back. He would go sit on the couch and let her have the chair.

Harley and Hagen loved her. Harley would act so gentle with her, and wouldn't mess with her. It's like he knew she was the Queen Bitch. My parents kept the boys while we were on vacation. During that week, Harley slowly started to realize he could play with her and not hurt her. She would give it back to him as good as she got it. But he was always gentle with her, allowing her to pin him down. She kept the boys in line, that's for sure! She kept the entire family in line. We will all miss her terribly.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who’ve been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Toys for Tots Motorcycle run

This past Saturday, my parents and Bryan and I participated in a Marine Corp Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run. It started at a VFW post in McKinney. The ride wound through the country and was about 40 miles long. There was a great turn out - if we had to guess we would say 200 or so motorcycles. It was a great ride, and for an even better cause. Here are some pictures of the day...

Ready to go...
