We have a new family member...

Meet Hagen! We rescued/adopted him this past weekend from the Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of North Texas. He is a 5 year old schnauzer. He is such a sweet boy! He plays very well with Harley.
You can see more of him at:

Kati's band concert

Kati had her end of the year band concert last night. They sounded really good!

One of the songs they played was a Star Wars compilation song. She had a duet with the boy that you see next to her. They did great!!

Loralye

Loralye came for a visit with her crippled Aunt this week! Actually, she brought her mom out to get rid of her aunt's many many many gray hairs! Talk about service....if I can't get to the salon...she comes to me.

Those gray hairs scare the baby

Mom.....get me away from her...she's already broken her own leg...don't let her hurt me too!

Jamaica

When Bryan's dad Pat had his 2 weeks off from Iraq - he and Bonnie spent a week in Jamaica. They stayed at the Sandals Whitehouse resort. It is a fairly new resort on the South end of Jamaica. Their pictures are just breathtaking!! I thought I would share a few with you...

Ta da...

Well, I guess it was inevitable - I was gonna be casted. I went to the Ortho. Surgeon today. He did more xrays, and said the ankle bone is broken - and the ligament damage isn't as bad as it could be. He said the swelling doesn't concern him - anytime you break a bone there will be swelling. He said no need for surgery - as long as I follow his instructions, I should heal fine.

His instructions were however - no work until after he sees me again - in 3 weeks. He said I have to stay off of it and not try and put any weight on it for the 3 weeks. He said I need to continue to keep it up so the swelling will go down.

I'm not sure about the no work for 3 weeks thing. If I do follow that - we will have to cancel our vacation - as I'm sure my boss won't like me being off for 1 month and then coming back to go on vacation. Not to mention, I will have to use up all my vacation/sick/personal time to stay home and get paid. So, we shall see.

Cuter...

I thought the blog could use something cuter than my icky foot....so here is my couch buddy and Tayler...

*sigh*

Daily update in pictures. Not much change - except more yellow bruising. No reduction in swelling.

Another day...another update

I'm running of out titles for these posts....so sorry if they sound un-imaginative. I've had my foot up all day - above my heart (which is harder than one would think) and on ice almost all day. I slept with the ice pack in my bed last night also.

And....the verdict....still swollen. It's not any smaller. And today I've noticed that the rest of my foot is swollen too. The bruising is a nice shade of yellow - and has extended all the way down to my toes.

It just gets better and better

I won't gross anyone out with ankle pictures today. Just look again at yesterday's pictures and it still pretty much looks the same.

I did go back to the doctor yesterday. He said that it was entirely too swollen, so he did another set of xrays. He said there was so much edema on the inside and out, it was hard to tell. He did say that he's certain there is ligament damage. He said the popping noise I heard when it happened was more than likely the ligament tearing - not the bone. He said he couldn't tell the extent of the damage, due to the edema. So, he is sending me to an orthopedic surgeon. He told me that I have to stay off my foot, and keep it elevated and on ice, to help the swelling go down.

So...fractured ankle....torn ligament.....helpless....life is a freaking bowl of cherries.

Also...

My doctor gave me pain pills I had never heard of - Vicoprofen. It is Vicoden and Ibuprofen combo.

They work pretty well - except for the knocking me out part.

Although I'm wondering if the crying spells are due to the medicine - or just my frustration. I really do hate this.

Day 4795 of my captivity

That is what it feels like. I'm so miserable. I don't like this helpless feeling.

I planned on going back to work today. I got up and started to get ready. That was an experience in itself. Then I went to put the boot, aka "ninja torture device" on - and my plans changed. I thought I was getting better, but I quickly learned I am not. It's so swollen that when I put the boot on, it presses up against my ankle too much.

I think it's more swollen today than yesterday. I'm not sure why, but I think it is. So, I'm back on the couch, foot up on pillows and an ice pack. Thank goodness for my very patient boss and co -workers!

Oh..and if you are wondering what my obsession is with taking pictures of my foot - I have to do that to be able to see it well. I can't see it, since I can't twist my leg any. So, I have to take pictures to be able to see it at an angle where I can get a good view. And since I've taken the pictures - might as well share them.

Ankle update

I thought I would gross everyone out with updated pictures of my ankle. I thought the swelling had gone down some - and it has - but it's still pretty swollen. Also now the pretty green bruising has started. I feel slightly better today - but still can't put pressure on it at all. And, thanks to Kati and Harley - I've now had to take a pain pill 2x today. I guess that's the hazard of trying to lay on the couch with it elevated. I can't have the couch to myself - I have to share. Oh well, they didn't mean to hurt it - it was an accident.

Anyway.....

Kati's first formal dance

Kati went to her first "formal" dance tonight. It was a school dance, that included all of Denton middle schools. She went with a group of friends. They all went dress shopping together - and then all got together after school today to get ready for the dance. They came by our house on their way so we could see her dressed up and take pictures. We used Bobbi and Norman's tree next door as a backdrop.

Here are the pictures of my little Kati....

I'm a clutz

As if that is news to anyone who knows me. I wasn't always a clutz - I'm not sure what has happened to me.
Anyway, this morning I fell at the bottom of our stairs and hurt my ankle. I was coming down stairs - and when I put my left foot on the floor at the bottom - my ankle twisted and I went down. On my way down, I heard a loud crack. I was laying on the floor thinking it was no big deal, I would get up....and nobody would know I fell. But, as I tried to get up - my foot started burning like crazy and I realized I couldn't put any pressure on it. So, I hopped on 1 foot over to the couch and layed down. Kati came downstairs to find me. I let her stay home from school so she could help me out today. I then called a friend of mine, Wendy, and asked her if she could take me to an ER. Of course without hesitation she said yes, and was at my house within 5 minutes. She is great!!
After painful xrays - they told me I have a fracture. A fracture of my left distal tibular - to be exact. I'm sure everyone knows what that is! Anyway, I just unwrapped it (it's not in a cast) and Tayler took pictures of it for me. I can't twist my left to where I can see it myself. I thought I would share...
